Fanfiction Recommendations #2

Death Can't Have Her

Written by: KuraChan-ya
A wanderer, a student, a marine, a traveler, a pirate. These are the titles Shiki had once become. She doesn't care what she is, as long as her friend is safe, even if she has to become the villain of the story or die trying. But what happens when she's stuck with the Surgeon of Death and his crew?
SENPAI NOTICED ME!!! THIS IS THE GREATEST MOMENT OF MY LIIIIIFFFEEE!!! *ehem* excuse me for my fan-girling. It just so happened that one of the recent chapters of this story was dedicated to me! I never thought an author would acknowledge a random reader like me! The chapter that was dedicated to me can be found here. Moving on...

The story revolves around our stoic heroine, Shiki. It starts of interestingly as our protagonist being a marine. This book is one of the book where Character development is slow. I really appreciate that the character's personality doesn't change much or at all. Unlike most books I read about where the main character acts all high and mighty but cant do anything around their crush and ends up getting real shy. Shiki on the other hand doesn't act very girlish or normal. She has a very unique character that can't be easily swayed. Her attitude only differs when she's around her friend Reika. Towards other people, she's cold and blunt.

She somewhat has an attitude of a child too. When she sees something cute, or something she likes, she would immediately act kinder and more compassionate. Her first encounter with Bepo proves this where she offers Bepo free fish from the bar. The story gets only more interesting while we're learning about Shiki's habits as a Vice Admiral. She only captures pirates they're assigned to. If they encounter a different pirate on their way to or back, she'd always command her crew to ignore them. This was revealed when they encountered the White beard pirates on their way back to marine base.

The crew had mistaken Shiki's sleep talk as an order to attack. Once Shiki woke up from the ruckus and threatened her crew mates that she'll sink the ship if they don't retreat. She then apologized to the pirates and went on their way. Later during Ace's execution, Shiki betrays the marines and saves Ace because she said "They're nice pirates." remembering their encounter where one of the pirate mockingly said that they're "Saving people and helping the sick". It would seem that Shiki takes everything too literally. She then returns Ace to Luffy and escaped the war once Reika arrived.

The real story starts where she's resting on an island, she meets Trafalgar Law for the second time. Law then kidnaps Shiki and Shiki later on joining the crew because her friend allowed her to. Slowly we see Law grow feelings for Shiki. Mysteriously Shiki and Reika seem to be chasing after a certain man for unknown reasons. Reika gets furious every time they learn that he's on the same island as they are. Shiki doesn't show much anger towards the man unlike Reika. Since the story is still ongoing, I can't really say much about it.
