Cats vs Dogs

Who's The Better Companion?

We all know the saying that a dog is a man's best friend but what about cats? We've known cats since the ancient times where Egyptians worshiped them as as their "god". What is there to dogs that makes them feel so lovable? What makes cats so mysterious? I'll share some of my information about these animals.

Let's start off with dogs. Most dogs as we all know them, are friendly and playful. These are the two aspects that attract people to them. When people are looking for a companion, we look for company who are active and affectionate. Thus why dogs are preferred by most people. Us people tend to bend the nature of dogs. There are dogs who people tame to be guards. They're forced to be well-behaved and disciplined. There are dogs too who are trained to guide the blind. Such sad lives these dogs live because they can't be the dog they are. Instead they're being manipulated by people and are taught on how to live their lives.

Moving into cats. It's true that most people dislike cats because they're almost the opposite of dogs. Dog's adapt to humans while we have to adapt to cats. Older people prefer cats since they're quieter and more matured than dogs. It's true that cats are lazier but also true that they show the same affection as dogs. It takes time for a cat to adjust to it's new surroundings. Once it does, it will most likely mark some places as it's territory. Cat's don't scratch your furniture because they hate them, they scratch tall and sturdy items to sharpen their claws. Just like how dogs bite onto shoes or other rubbery items they both have the instance to sharpen their "weapons".

All animals are equipped with some kind of weapon to defend themselves in the wild. Removing their "weapons" will leave them to feel defenseless. One example is the de-clawing of cats. People have come up with a solution to remove the cat's claws instead of cutting them repeatedly every other month but doing this to the cat is like removing the toes on your feet.

Cat's claws are used for their balance. After surgery the cats may or may not get used to their newly de-clawed paws because their born with an instinct to balance their weight on their claws. It will be difficult for them to walk if you de-claw them.

Both animals have it's pros and cons. First and foremost they're animals. Animals no matter what kind will stink. They all have a certain foul odor they emit. This can't be stopped but it can be prevented. Giving your pet a bath is the only way. The brighter side is that you get home you're companion is waiting for you. Both cats and dogs are excited to see their owner come home. You won't feel the dreaded loneliness plus someone is guarding your house.

I conclude that cats and dogs are not really all that different. They may be in certain ways such as body language but in the end they're still our furry companion.
