Vocaloid Song Review #4

ECHO (Oliver's Cover)

Lyrics

The clock stopped ticking forever ago.
How long have I been up?
I don't know.
I can't get a grip, but I can't let go
There wasn't anything to hold on to though.

Why can't I see?
Why can't I see?
All the colors that you see?
Please, can I be,
Please can I be,
Colorful and free?

What the hell's going on?!
Can someone tell me please?
Why I'm switching faster than the channels on TV?
I'm black, then I'm white,
No!
Something isn't right!
My enemy's invisible, I don't know how to fight!

The trembling fear is more than I can take,
When I'm up against
The echo in the mirror!
Echo!

I'm gonna burn my house down into an ugly black.
I'm gonna run away now and never look back.

I'm gonna burn my house down into an ugly black.
I'm gonna run away now and never look back.

I'm gonna burn my house down into an ugly black.
I'm gonna run away now and never look back.

I'm gonna burn my house down into an ugly black.
I'm gonna run away now and never look back.

I'm gonna burn my house down,
And never look back.
And never look back.

And never look back!

What the hell's going on?!
Can someone tell me please?
Why I'm switching faster than the channels on TV?
I'm black, then I'm white,
No!
Something isn't right!
My enemy's invisible, I don't know how to fight!

The trembling fear is more than I can take,
When I'm up against
The echo in the mirror!

To start off, the song has a lot of instrumentals in it, also the lyrics are quite repetitive so this'll be a challenge to explain. Though I do find the music very catchy. The music was originally sung by Gumi, although I'll be using Oliver's version so that the song will sound more natural. Gumi's English accent disturbs me a bit. Another thing to keep in mind is that I'm suffering from another headache currently so please bear with any misspellings or grammar. I've been planning to talk about this song for a while now. I just didn't know how to explain it well enough for anyone to understand without watching the video, anyways here you go!

This song can be on an artist's point of view. It can mean that he's turn color blind or had damaged his eyes to the point wherein he can only see black and white. The visuals don't really support this idea because of the tv head and the six arms positioned similar that to Buddhism or something like that. Since he couldn't see well the 'echo' in the mirror can be referring to his reflection. Since the meaning of the words echo is a repetition or imitation.  It can be the repeating image of himself in the miror.

Another theory is that while watching tv, that person suffers from seizure. The warning at the beginning of the song was that viewer discretion is advised. because the video itself can trigger a seizure or epilepsy. It said that he turns black and white (most presumably he lost and regained consciousness) and switches faster than the tv. At the first part of the song, we can say that he woke up from the previous seizure and has no recollections of what happened before. Not long after more seizures come up and only one thing was on his mind "What's going on?!" he must have become delusional at the part where he repeats the line "I'm gonna burn my house down into an ugly black. I'm gonna run away now and never look back. I'm gonna burn my house down into an ugly black. I'm gonna run away now and never look back."  he must've thought that it was something in his house (or his entire house) triggering the seizures. Being sick of those seizures he probably thought he probably thought that the fastest way would be burning it down.

His invisible enemy would probably mean his illness. If it's this case, then the video supports the idea as well. I've found the exact seizure for this case: "Myoclonic seizures involve spasms of muscles in either a few areas or all over.[29] Absence seizures can be subtle with only a slight turn of the head or eye blinking.[22] The person does not fall over and returns to normal right after it ends.[22] Atonic seizures involve the loss of muscle activity for greater than one second.[25]This typically occurs on both sides of the body.[25]" (more information at: Wikipedia) this can mean that his muscles are failing him. He's then soon plagued with fear, unknowing when the next 'attack' will happen.
